Cancer treatment-related side effects lead to toxicities that can negatively impact function. Evidence-based guidelines for toxicity and morbidity management are developed and deployed by many renowned organizations worldwide. These guidelines tend to be impairment based and focus on medical intervention. However, some have identifiable points of engagement for rehabilitation services. Although no specific cancer rehabilitation guideline exists, several countries have identified optimal models of care for rehabilitation integration in oncology services. This webinar will review existing impairment-based guidelines and emphasize the triage points and referral thresholds that support rehabilitation services. Additionally, international cancer rehabilitation model guidelines will be reviewed. Recommendations for integrating rehabilitation services into the oncology delivery system will also be reviewed in an effort to optimize opportunities to meet quality reporting guidelines and Commission on Cancer standards.
Webinar participants should be able to:
- Identify the primary cancer-related organizations that have guideline clearinghouses and libraries that are relevant to the rehabilitation community.
- Identify the cancer rehabilitation-specific recommendations within existing impairment-based cancer guidelines.
- Develop an understanding of strategies to integrate cancer rehabilitation into oncology care to meet the needs of cancer patients experiencing morbidity and requiring referral to rehabilitation services.
- Identify opportunities to elevate rehabilitation workforce roles in screening and triaging oncology patients, leveraging existing guidelines to meet evidence-based requirements for care.
